It is not that I am lazy, it is just that other things get in the way of my time to exercise. There is always something I could be doing at the office or I can justifiably say I am so tired I could just do with an evening off. I even have a gym on my way home so that I feel bad whenever I drive past it, but still it does not work in the same way a personal trainer does.
I book two months of sessions at a time, and if I know I am going away on business I plan around it, sometimes building in a few extra PT sessions. This means even If I really can't get any training in, at least I will have some intense sessions either side of my trip.
I won't cancel Personal Training sessions as to me they are booked in my diary like a meeting. And yes when my alarm goes off for a 7am session I do say I am far too tired to go, but I don't cancel as I don't want to mess my personal trainer around. There are numerous times I have planned to go to the early morning spinning class at the gym, but I tend to switch the alarm off and say I need another hour in bed. The fact that my personal trainer is setting time aside just to help me get fit is an incentive to make me go.
I am no fitness addict and am certainly not one of those people that can say they love exercise. I do know though that it really does help me cope with stress. When you are feeling stressed, exercising really isn't what you fancy doing. But because the session is booked - I go. Then when I get there, I am busy chatting to the trainer, thinking about what is coming next, telling myself I need to do this set really well, that in no time I have forgotten about what happened in the office an hour ago.
In between sessions I have this nagging voice in my head that I need to fit in 2 x 1 hour exercise sessions. I know I am going to be asked what training I have done between personal training sessions so again it makes me go to the gym or for a run outside. If it was just down to me I would talk myself out of this weeks sessions, then something would happen the week after, then I would start to lose confidence in my fitness and before you know it a months gone by without any exercise. Even if something does go wrong I have my weekly PT session to bring me back in line and start the next week well.
I am not naturally good at sport and deciding to have a personal trainer was slightly unexpected of me. I have no doubt that without a personal trainer for the last 3 years, I would be several stone heavier than I am now and pretty stressed out! Personal training for me is not about being the ‘best' it is about making sure I exercise on a regular basis to cope with my busy lifestyle and manage my waist line! I used to think a personal trainer was just for those that excel in sport, but really they can help everyone achieve their own goals and ‘excel' in their own little way.
