As snow fell on Wolverhampton in the early hours of the 31st of January, five brave Maidonians prepared to begin what has been described as the hardest test of mental and physical pain, and endurance in the World.
The "Tough Guy" challenge is an assault course set over 9 miles where your fear of heights, tight spaces, fire, water and electricity are tested to the max.
The team was recruited by Daniel Kielty of SALON FRESH and trained by Chris Lee of TROJAN TRAINING who has completed the course 10 years running.
Ian Clarke, of Bray, Steve O'Keeffe & Richard Langham, both of RightNow Technologies, all spent several months training early mornings, weekends and evenings Racking up the miles as well as plunging into the Thames despite the recent weather to prepare for the ordeal.
Ian said "It's brilliant to have completed this event but I was shocked by just how extreme it was, I‘d been warned it was hardcore but nothing can prepare you for the reality. The water had inch thick ice on it and the obstacles just seemed to go on forever."
Daniel who had previously competed in the summer event commented "this time round I was fitter and better trained thanks to Chris, but the cold was a real challenge, the front runners had to break the ice with their elbows just to get it to the Sub zero lakes.
Chris Lee, TROJAN'S MD was delighted with the dedication of the lads and pleased that team Trojan had managed to raise over £3000 for WAMDSAD "it's great to be able to do this for such a deserving local charity"
Mike Davis chief executive of WAMDSAD was delighted to hear of team TROJAN'S success. Both WAMDSAD and the tough guy's would like to thank all those who sponsored and helped them.
