Trojan Training @ School

It was never in the original business plan to try and take the "Box Office" concept into schools. However, I was asked by a school in Reading to run a 12 week course aimed at getting the pupils fit using circuit training and boxing pad work. How could I refuse such a challenge?

Still at this stage I was not planning for this to become part of the business, I was just doing it for the enjoyment of teaching the kids and seeing how they would respond to it. My style of circuit training is very military orientated and highly disciplined so no-one knew how the pupils were going to respond to this. I have to say I was absolutely amazed by the response. The kids responded brilliantly almost as if they were grateful of the boundaries put in place for their behaviour. They treated time on the focus mitts with a lot of respect and really listened when being taught boxing stance and various punches.

As part of the education I started to introduce anatomy education into the warm up and cool down. With each stretch they performed they named the muscle group being stretched. Each week every pupil was asked to demonstrate an exercise from the previous week and again I was amazed at how much information they retained from one week to the next.

At the end of the 12 week course, attendance was the same as day one and the teachers had seen a change in the pupils participating. Some had lost a little weight, some had grown in confidence. By this time all the pupils were taking turns to stand at the front and instruct stretches. It was beyond anyone's expectations.

The teacher who pioneered the case study took the results to the relevant department to see if this model could be rolled out through other schools and it became clear there was some funding available to get pupils doing more exercise. So after a meeting it was given the green light to be implemented slowly in schools around Reading. Then we had the opportunity to offer the same thing in the Windsor and Maidenhead area and to date Trojan training proudly offers this model to about 10 schools over the two areas. Still the feedback from teachers and kids is glowing and the results are still the same.

I have to thank all the other instructors who deliver the concept around the schools for being able to stick to a proven model. So schools are now firmly apart of the Trojan Training business model and I really hope to keep introducing it to new schools in the area. I really believe pupils should have the opportunity to do more structured physical exercise with education tied in to help promote the importance of looking after themselves going into the future and also giving them the tools to do it.

Boxing in schools

I wish my kids went to school in your area. Firstly my son would love this training and secondly I think the discipline is a great thing for kids these days. Keep me posted if you cast your net up to the Midlands.
