Chris Lee from Trojan Training meets Ricky Hatton

It was a family Christmas gathering this year as it always is and the exchanging of gifts was going well when I was handed an A4 envelope from two of my sisters. This was no ordinary present and my sisters were smiling as I cautiously opened with no clue as to what I was getting.

Contained in the envelope was a sheet of A4 paper with a poem on it leading me to a set of draws in my older sisters house - laid in there was another envelope now everyone was laughing clearly in on the act and I was very suspicious. I opened the envelope and there were three tickets to Plymouth to see Ricky Hatton. To make things even better they were VIP tickets which allowed us backstage to have our photo taken with the great man himself.
I have followed Ricky Hatton from his very first professional fight when a friend of mine watched him on an under card in Vegas and said Ricky Hatton is one to keep an eye on in the future and boy was he right.

My first trip was to watch him fight in Manchester which was one of the best nights I have ever had, the atmosphere and the people were just amazing and the noise in the arena as everyone sang "There is only one Ricky Hatton" was deafening.

A few years later and Ricky Hatton was one of the biggest names in boxing and was fighting a lot in Vegas and building up to a possible fight with Floyd Mayweather - at the time the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Jay (my best mate) decided he was going to take us both to Vegas to watch the fight as a birthday present for me (I am very lucky!!) we had an amazing time and Ricky won the bout in fantastic style.

The fight with Mayweather was made for later that year and yes Jay decided we were going again only this time Ricky Hatton suffered his first loss and it was a very sad day. But as any great fan and supporter of Ricky we sang our way through it and supported him in a difficult time.
So you can imagine my excitement at receiving these tickets and once again myself, Jay and my sister headed off on a weekend road trip to meet Ricky Hatton, have photos taken and listen to him speak and it was brilliant.

Let's get things into perspective Ricky Hatton has achieved everything in boxing and will go down as one of the great legends, but you wouldn't know it when we met him. He couldn't have been more down to earth or nice on the night, which only increased my respect for the man immensely, he went out of his way to try and have just a few words with everyone in the VIP lounge (how many greats would do that).

Needless to say it was one of the best and most memorable weekends I have ever had and here is the story behind how I came to finally meet the great Ricky Hatton.
