As a quick and easy method of checking whether your current weight is healthy for your height Trojan training has included a Bmi calculator. (Body Mass Index) it is a predetermined formula that works out your body mass by a formula using your height and weight. It is widely used in doctor's surgeries to do a quick assessment of patent Mass for health but be aware because it is so simple to use it does have its pit falls.
Bearing in mind it's a calculation of total body mass based on height and weight, the formula or charts don't have the ability to differentiate between lean muscle tissue and body fat.
That means if you have done any weight training and increased your muscle density that will make you weigh heavier than an average person of your height so there is every chance that you will rate as overweight or obese on the BMI calculator even though your body fat is probably fairly low.
If you do regular weight training and have built muscle density and are coming out overweight or obese on the calculator speak to a Trojan trainer and inquire about having just your body fat measured. This is a much more accurate test, achieved by measuring the thickness of the fat under the skin over four different areas of the body and using another formula working out total body fat.
A great test which can give informative information but be warned it does involve a trainer pinching an inch and measuring its thickness, but don't feel embarrassed all our trainers have done it many times before and are extremely discreet professional and ethical so no need to be shy.
